Recipe: Matcha Energy Balls
⚡️Who doesn’t love an energy ball!!
I love keeping these tasty and energy boosting treats in the fridge or freezer, to take along on a long run, or enjoy after a workout.
These matcha balls are filled with antioxidants, healthy fats and protein to help with inflammation, boost energy and aid in recovery.
Almonds - Loaded with nutrients and antioxidants that help protect against oxidative stress, which can damage molecules in your cells and contribute to inflammation, aging and diseases like cancer. They are also high in magnesium that is key in muscle relaxation and blood sugar control and blood pressure regulation.
Walnuts - Also loaded with antioxidants, walnuts are a super source of Omega 3 fatty acids. Walnuts are significantly higher in omega-3 fat than any other nut, providing 2.5 grams per 1-ounce (28-gram) serving. The Omega-3 fat from walnuts is called alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) which is an essential fat, meaning your body cannot make it and you must get it from your diet. According to the Institute of Medicine, adequate intake of ALA is 1.6 and 1.1. grams per day for and a single serving of walnuts meets that guideline (1). Observational studies have shown that each gram of ALA you eat per day lowers your risk of dying from heart disease by 10% (2).
Green Tea - Another great source of antioxidants, these antioxidants increase capacity of the blood, which protects the LDL particles from oxidation, which is one part of the pathway toward heart disease (3, 4). While the caffeine of green tea can certainly be used as a performance enhancing stimulant, it has consistently shown that it may also improve various aspects of brain function, including mood, vigilance, reaction time, and memory (5).
Dates - while mainly a carbohydrate, dates pack a significant amount of minerals including, Potassium, Magnesium, Copper, Manganese, Iron and Vitamin B6, linked to healthy bones and brain health. The fibre packed date, also helps in blood sugar regulation, making this an excellent snack for people on the go.
Coconut - the highly nutritious coconut, is packed with flavour, antioxidants, and medium-chain triglycerides, it supports healthy brain function, energy through blood sugar regulation and heart health.
